Universal Martial Arts offers a number of classes throughout the week, ideal for beginners, advanced students and everyone in between. Whether you're looking to reach the fabled black belt, or simply want to have fun, Universal Martial Arts is here to help. Our Newcastle-based centre is fully equipped, and we have over 30 years' coaching experience. 

As well as specific martial arts styles, we also run indoor boot camps, which give you a thorough workout! Every session is different, and are a fun way to keep fit in a safe and supportive environment.

Boxing classes (14+)

With origins dating back to the Ancient Greeks it is one of the oldest combat sports, with huge popularity thanks to the Olympics and the Commonwealth Games. We run a number of classes suitable for everyone, from beginners all the way up to advanced boxing. 

In this class you will learn the foundations of boxing as well as strength and conditioning drills all designed to improve core strength, movement, stability and build a solid basis for development. Students can also take part in sparring or just enjoy bag and partner work.

Sessions are available from £5, and we also run children's classes (13 and under) at £4 per session.

Muy Thai kickboxing

Muay Thai kickboxing is fantastic for both beginners and advanced students, and a great introduction to the sport and ancient martial art. Whether you like to train for competitive reasons or for fun and fitness there's something in the classes for everyone.

Classes start with a light warm up and stretching, followed by drills and techniques involving elbows, punches, knees, kicks and clinch work. Sessions finish with fitness workouts which is catered towards the individual. More advanced students may be invited to stay for sparring, but this is not compulsory. New students are welcome to wear any clothes they feel comfortable training in.

Ladies only classes

Lessons held for complete beginners to advanced.

These classes are for those who may not feel as comfortable going into a mixed class. They're a great all-over work out and the ladies who come to our classes certainly know how to have a laugh while getting fit. Our ladies only classes are a fantastic success and receive great feedback from all participants.

Everyone aged 14+ is welcome.

Try our kickboxing class

Kickboxing is a great way to keep fit and active, and at Universal Martial Arts we offer three types of class.

Our traditional kickboxing classes are ideal for beginner and advanced students, and a good way to keep fit and learn practical self-defence techniques. You will have a mix of high energy warm-ups, flexibility work, boxing drills, bag and pads work, two-man drills and circuit training. Optional sparring is available for more advanced members.
