Universal Martial Arts was formed in 1998 at Ouseburn Community Centre, with lessons only twice a week. In May 2005 I decided I wanted to take my love of martial arts and teaching to be my main job, so I visited large martial arts schools around the UK to see how they were run. I also attended many seminars for teacher training from some of the best professionals from around the world, learning child psychology and the protocol used for teaching children to build their confidence and self esteem.
Since 2005, Universal Martial Arts School has grown and grown. We moved to new, full-time premises on Heaton Road, and again in September 2009 moved to a 3500sq ft studio. We are currently located in a 6500sq ft studio, which is the largest martial arts school in the north east. We have around 200 members, with over 150 children aged from 4 to 14 enjoying the benefits of martial arts and life skills. Alongside this, Universal Martial Arts has seen a growth in the adult classes, now teaching over 60 adults kickboxing and Jujitsu in a relaxed and safe environment. With the new premises I hope the school will continue to grow and more children and adults will enjoy learning martial arts as much as I have over the years.
